Editorial Standards
These are the standards pioneer-camp.net is written to. They exist so that a sentence on this site can be held against something.
Where the figures come from
Fill powers, fleece weights, pocket counts, size runs, colourways, UPF figures and prices come from our own product data, and a page prints them out of that data rather than out of a paragraph somebody typed. Where a piece gives no fill power or no fibre content, the line is left blank rather than guessed. A measurement we do not have is not invented.
What a card may claim here
A card describes a garment: what it is filled with, how heavy the cloth is, where the pockets are and which one zips, whether the hood comes off, whether the seams are taped, what the label says about sun. Those are facts about a piece and we will print them. A card does not tell you what temperature you will be comfortable in, because that depends on you, the wind and what you are doing. On washing, drying and fibre content the label sewn into the garment outranks anything printed here: where the two disagree, follow the label and write to us so we can fix the card.
Claims about sun, cold, labels and safety
Anything here that touches sun protection, cold-weather exposure, fibre labelling, down sourcing or care instructions is written under a named public source, listed on the page that makes the claim, with the date it was read. Where a UPF number appears it is the number the label carries, and the page beside it says that the figure describes cloth that is dry and not stretched. A jacket is called waterproof, taped or certified only where the label and the product data say so.
Photographs
Every piece is shown in the colourway being sold. A photograph with a size chart, a slogan or a performance claim printed into the image is kept off the page, and a picture that contradicts the text beside it comes off rather than getting a caption to explain it away.
Ratings
Where a card carries a star figure and a count, both come out of our own product data and are printed as they stand, rounded to one decimal and never rounded up. The figure belongs to the whole family, so every colourway of one jacket shows the same number. Stars and counts are the only buyer feedback anywhere on this site: a quote cut to fit a card is an edited quote, and a count is harder to bend than three sentences somebody chose for you.
What gets pulled
A piece that sells out leaves the site at the next build. A figure that turns out to be wrong is corrected on the page and the correction is noted on how we update the catalogue. Write to basecamp@pioneer-camp.net with the page and the figure.
