Pioneer Camp snow piece

A day on snow is a day of standing still and then moving hard, and almost everything on this shelf is built in two parts because of it. A 3-in-1 is a waterproof outer and an insulated inner that zip together: wear both on a cold chair, drop the liner when you are climbing, and wear the shell alone in spring slush. Everything here is waterproof rather than water-resistant, because snow melts against you and a shower rating will not hold. The trousers and bibs matter more than people expect: the cuff is cut wide enough to sit over a boot and hold the snow out, and the bib version keeps a layer over the small of your back when you sit down. Wind matters more here than the number on a thermometer: the National Weather Service chart puts zero degrees with a fifteen mile-an-hour wind at nineteen below, and exposed skin freezes in half an hour at that. Sizes run S to 2XL.

Questions about Pioneer Camp ski and snow

What a 3-in-1 gives you that one jacket cannot, why snow trousers have a cuff that goes over the boot, and how wind changes the cold you are dressing for.

What do you get from a Pioneer Camp 3-in-1 ski jacket?

Two jackets that zip together and can be worn three ways: the waterproof outer alone in spring slush, the insulated inner alone on a cold walk to the lift, and both together on a January chairlift. It is the most useful thing on this shelf if you ski in more than one kind of weather, and the reason it costs more than a single-layer jacket.

Do Pioneer Camp snow pants fit over ski boots?

The cuff is cut wide and reinforced so it sits over the boot rather than tucking into it, which is what keeps snow out of the top when you go over. The bibs go further and keep a layer across the small of your back when you sit down in snow, which is where most people get cold and wet on a learning day.

How cold is a Pioneer Camp ski jacket good for?

No card here will give you a number, and any brand that does is guessing on your behalf. What decides the day is wind: the National Weather Service chart puts zero degrees with a fifteen mile-an-hour wind at nineteen below, and exposed skin freezing in about half an hour. Dress for the wind chill, not the thermometer, and put the warmth in layers you can take off on the way up.
