01The half of the drawer you wear every day
Bamboo viscose tees sold singly and in packs of three and six, quick-dry training shirts, long-sleeve shirts, UPF polos, merino base layers and tank tops.

Three fabrics divide this shelf and they behave differently on you. Bamboo viscose is the soft one: it drapes, it sits cool against the skin on a hot day, and it is the reason the plain tees here are bought in packs of three and six rather than one at a time. The quick-dry knits are polyester and spandex: less pleasant to touch, far better at moving sweat off you and drying between one walk and the next. They are what the training shirts and most of the polos are cut from. Merino is the third: it is the base layer for cold weather, it keeps working when damp, and it does not start to smell after two days out, which is the whole argument for it. Fibre content is printed on every card as the label gives it, in descending order by weight, which is what the labelling rules require of us. Sizes run XS to 3XL.

Prices are the figures from our last update; we refresh them on a schedule, which is the least glamorous part of the Pioneer Camp rule book, and the figure at the till is the one that counts.
07Before you order
What bamboo viscose feels like against merino, which tees come in packs, and which shirts carry a UPF figure.
Cooler and slippier. Bamboo viscose has more drape than cotton, sits away from the skin instead of clinging when you sweat, and is the reason these are sold in packs of three and six rather than one at a time. Cotton holds moisture longer, which is pleasant in a chair and unpleasant on a hill.
For multi-day trips, mostly yes: merino keeps working when it is damp and does not start to smell after two days the way a polyester knit does. For a gym or a single hot run, a quick-dry synthetic dries faster and costs less. The fibre content is printed on every card so you can see which you are buying.
The polos and part of the quick-dry shirts, and the card prints it only where the label carries it. A shirt with no figure on the card is not being sold to you as sun protection; a dense dark weave still blocks more than a thin pale one, which is the general rule dermatologists give, but general is all it is.
